Interior design studio
High-value enquiries arriving completely unqualified, and a portfolio living on social media. A portfolio-led site with a qualification flow that screens gently rather than interrogating.
An invented business, built to show how the system works when the problem is specific. Every design and engineering decision here is real. The company is not, and no result, metric or testimonial is claimed.
The brief
A six-person residential studio taking on roughly fifteen projects a year, sourced almost entirely through referral and social media.
Approach
Slow the site down deliberately. Let the work carry the page, and qualify through the enquiry rather than in front of it.
Parts of the system used
The situation
The work is excellent and the presentation is not. A social grid flattens a project into a single image, strips the reasoning out of it, and makes a studio look like a freelancer. Meanwhile every enquiry arrives on identical footing: someone redecorating one room and someone refitting an entire property write the same short message.
The cost is not lost enquiries. It is weeks spent in conversations that were never going to reach the studio’s minimum project size, while a genuinely well-matched enquiry waits for a reply.
The approach
Let the work be the interface. Large-format photography, generous space, and minimal chrome. Each project is a narrative — the brief, the constraint, the decision, the result — rather than a gallery. Restraint is harder to build than decoration, and it is the right answer for a studio selling judgment.
Qualify through the enquiry, not before it. A short flow that asks about project type, timeline, scope and budget band, framed as helping the visitor work out fit rather than screening them at the door. Someone not ready to enquire can take a project-planning guide instead.
Route honestly. In-scope enquiries flag for immediate human follow-up. Out-of-scope enquiries get a genuinely useful reply and a referral suggestion rather than silence — a studio that answers well is remembered even when it says no.
Nurture for a long horizon. Residential projects are decided over months. The follow-up sequence assumes that rather than treating a slow reply as a lost lead.
Visual direction
Editorial and architectural. Warm neutral ground, a single restrained accent, high-contrast display type against clean text. Photography does the work. Motion limited to a composed image entrance and precise hover states.
